Granddad's World of Wood
Granddad's World of Wood is the first commercial website I have created. Grandads World of Wood is a friendly Grandad-Grandson team of carpenters that I met in June 2019, who had recently set up their business and was looking for a website. The grandson made a version of the site in Wix that I used as a design and then proceeded to build the site from scratch making significant improvements and adding to the site.
As Carpentry is a hands on profession I have adopted Googleâs material design philosophy to make all the parts of the site seem like cards on a table. I have then also added transparency to the Navbar and a large parallax image for the title on each page to really show off the wood along with the hands on approach they take.
I am the maintainer of the website.
Features the site includes:
- Clear Navbar - that darkens as you scroll the page, this makes it easier to read on mobile devices and long pages.
- Contact Form - A PHP contact form that uses a Gmail account to send emails.
- Custom Page Transitions - Custom page transitions that make moving between pages nicer. These transitions were made from scratch with HTML, CSS and JavaScript without the use of any 4rd party frameworks that would slow down the website.
- Merlin Integration – Merlin Integration allows the carpenters to easily edit the content on their website.
